Text Box: Miles More Eggs for the Royal Air Forces Association
Sunday 28th March saw the Royal Air Forces Association’s Easter Egg Ride out from 20 start points throughout the UK al finishing at RAF Cosford’s Air Museum in Telford, Shropshire. This event raised not only a huge amount of money for the welfare work that they Charity does for serving and retired members of the RAF and also their families but participants were also asked to donate either a cuddly toy or an Easter Egg once they reached Royal Air Force Cosford.
These are in the process of being distributed around the country to families of serving personnel who are away over Easter, recovering patients at Selly Oak Hospital and also Headley Court will all receive a number of the eggs.
Wootton Bassett saw the largest donation from one group of young ladies.
A theatre group called Scene and Not Heard, saw one of RAFA’s leaflets advertising for this event during the Afghan Hero’s Bike Ride out on Mother’s Day and decided to challenge themselves by raising 1000 Easter Eggs in 10 days.
Within 48 hours this total had been smashed and they decided to step up the campaign by aiming for 5000 eggs.
The Girls, Zoë Mann 12, Sarah Ryan 14, Gemma Mowatt 15 and Kerrie Scarff 16 all from the Wiltshire area in total managed to achieve 3,203 eggs when the challenge closed on Saturday.
A large number of eggs were given to Royal Air Force Lyneham families who had a family member serving overseas on Operations. The children were incredibly excited to receive the gifts and their parents extremely humbled by the hard work that the Wootton Bassett girls had put into their collection. One said ” It’s fantastic to have such a great supporting community around RAF Lyneham and to think the girls went out of their way on their own accord to collect so many Easter Eggs for other people is staggering. We miss our loved ones so much, but it’s lovely to have so many caring people around us”
“The determination and effort that these Girls have put into challenging themselves is completely humbling and inspiring” said Gina Ford, South West Area Fundraiser for the Royal Air Forces Association. “Everyone involved should be incredibly proud of this achievement and to know that they will make so may children and adults happy in such a simple way. It’s amazing, and we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who donated their eggs to the Girls for us.”

The children of RAF Lyneham personnel were eggceptionally happy to receive their kindly donated Easter eggs
